Commissioned by Anstey Parish Council this mosaic leaf sculpture will be installed in the surrounding area of the Groby Road David Wilson Homes development, Leicestershire. The abstract design was inspired by the surrounding area of Charnwood forest and is made up of 12 different shades of green glass to create pattern and movement.
Residents in the area were invited to a public consultation and mosaic workshop where different design ideas were presented before deciding on the leaf sculpture. As many of the street names in the development are named after soldiers from the first World War it was also decided that a mosaic poppy in the form of a paving slab would sit at the base of the sculpture as a tribute. The public artwork will soon be landscaped into an area on the village green – just the stem of the leaf will stand 6ft above ground (the image shows the metal work which will be cemented below ground for stability)
